Valorization of South African Coal Wastes through Dense Medium Separation

چکیده

Sustainable management of coal waste is one the major environmental concerns for mining, whether active or legacy, worldwide. Coal dump deposits demand a large physical area footprint disposal solid waste, change topography, and generate both pyritic dust acid rock drainage (ARD) where deposited. The beneficiation or, preferably, prior to its dumping can reduce even eliminate liabilities related management. In this work, dense medium separation studies discards, using heavy liquids, resulted in three pooled fractions from typical South African discards Mpumalanga region future use: (a) fraction low density with increased calorific value; (b) intermediate density, rich ash neutralizing minerals lower sulfur; (c) high sulfidic including pyrite. were characterized particle size analysis, sink-float studies, static tests predict ARD potential, proximateand ultimate gross value. results showed that approximately 70% discard composed material sufficient quality energy generation conventional power stations. A pyrite-rich concentrate made up 2% total mass; comprising more than 45% mineral present feed displaying no capacity (ANC). remaining fraction, presented potential be used several ends soil fabrication, co-disposal as aggregate civil engineering; additional testing ensure applicability selected re-purposing option should chosen based on proposed use.

Valorization of municipal solid wastes through biogas production in Iran

Iran is a developing country with a population of over 80 million. The total daily MSWs production in Iran is about 50 million kg. Most of the MSWs in this country is being disposed of in the landfills. Some of the landfills are located in the urban area or near to sea, river, and forest. In this regard, the management of MSWS becomes a concern in Iran. One solution to manage MSWs and mitigate ...

The development of dynamic models for a dense medium separation circuit in coal beneficiation

Often the most difficult step in establishing a control system is the development of a suitable dynamic process model. As such a model is not available elsewhere, a first principle dynamic mathematical model was developed for a coal dense medium separation circuit. Each unit operation was modelled individually and then integrated together to form a complete non-linear state–space model for the ...

Valorization of Beer Brewing Wastes by Composting

The aim of this work was to study the viability of recycling the residual yeast and diatomaceous earth (RYDE) slurry generated by the beer brewing industry by composting with animal manures, as well as to evaluate the quality of the composts obtained. Two pilot composting trials were carried out with different mixes: cow manure/RYDE slurry (Pile CM) and sheep manure/RYDE slurry (Pile SM). For a...

Quantification of radionuclides and associated radiological risk estimation of coal combustion residues from a South African coal-fired power plant

Background: Radionuclides occur in coal combustion residues, such as fly ash and bottom ash, which are by-products of coal combustion. They pose potential radiological risks to people present in the surrounding areas. Materials and Methods: Gamma spectrometry was performed to determine the radionuclide activity concentrations in a coal-driven power plant located in the Limpopo province, South A...

Radiographic outcomes among South African coal miners.

OBJECTIVES This study, the first to document the prevalence of pneumoconiosis among a living South African coal mining cohort, describes dose-response relationships between coal workers' pneumoconiosis and respirable dust exposure, and relationships between pneumoconiosis and both lung function deterioration and respiratory symptoms. METHODS A total of 684 current miners and 188 ex-miners fro...
